We are now well into a rear garden project in South Wootton. Having cleared lots of undergrowth and unwanted plants and structures, we’ve restored the pond (which the fish seem to have appreciated), and are about to set out on the construction phase. Eight tonnes of recycled railway ballast finings (which are inert, by the way) have been shipped in and well wacked down to provide a solid base on which to build a patio and other structures.
Existing boundary fences have been painted – not the usual preservative brown or green, but a rather fetching shade of blue/green/grey (called “Willow”) which has lightened up the garden and drawn attention away from a tall hedge of conifers that grace a neighbouring garden, and overlook our clients’.
So, in the next few days we shall instal a multi-level raised bed, a pergola, and a patio. Similar to the patio we installed last month in Ely, this one will also be of Indian Sandstone.
Then, the garden design provides for the brawn to take over from the brains as several tonnes of top soil and shingle will need to be barrowed from the nearest road access at the front of the property, through to the back.
So, much work still to be done, but tangible progress being made. As ever with landscaping though – keep fingers crossed for reasonable weather. A recent forecast mentioned overnight frosts, but at least that should mean no rain.
